Here is some guidance on how to figure out what USB modems, offered by carriers in your country, may work with the LiveU Solo.
What Modems Are Currently Offered?
Step 1 is to check out your local carriers (networks) and see what modems they are offering, if they sell modems directly (or at least advise on what modems work with their networks). You are going to find out a manufacturer (like Huawei) and a model (like the E8372h, as one example).
Is That Modem Already On LiveU's List?
Next, check the list of known working modems, and see if that modem appears on there. You may find a few things:
- The modem is already on the list, for exactly the country/carrier you are looking for - congrats, you seem to be in great shape!
- The modem is on the list, but for a different country or carrier then yours - still good news, your chances this modem works is very high. There is some risk it will not, for reasons partially outlined in our article on the general state of USB modems and supporting them, but that risk is small.
- The modem is on the list, but with a slightly different part number or contains a note about tested firmware versions - similar to above, though with a slightly higher risk, your chances are good this modem works.
- The modem does not appear on the list at all - not all bad news, its mostly likely we just have never formally tested this modem at LiveU, but its possible other users have or it works "out of the box" thanks to universal modem control protocols. See the last section of our article on the state of USB modems and supporting them for some steps to proceed.
If you do find yourself in the situations outlined in 2-4, we would love to hear from you if the modem works after a test so we can update our list, and of course want to hear from you if you can't successfully get the modem working.
